Paolo Calabrese (b. 1998, Bari, Italy) is a composer and performer whose work explores alternative tunings, timbre research, psychoacoustic properties, and the interplay between physical, social, and spatial perceptual phenomena. His music is rigorous but patient, built on the dynamic tension between harmonic suspension and resolution; leaving space for a pared-down action seeking an ec/static verfremdungseffekt.
His compositions incorporate both acoustic instrumentation and synthesis, driven by an economy of means and a refined attention to sound's internal structures. Influenced by minimalist and long-form traditions, as well as the structural foundations and expressive depth of early music, his work is characterized by a focus on repetition, permutation, auditory scene analysis, sustained tones, microtonal intervals, and a quantitative-reductionist perspective.
Currently completing his bachelor's degree in new media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, Italy, Calabrese is based in Stockholm, Sweden.
